To: HARC Members From: Mark N4BCD Re: HARC now as a real email reflector Thanks to Josh (KD7HLX), the HARC membership now has an email reflector. What is a reflector? Simply put, email sent to one address will reach all subscribers. How will it be used? The reflector will be used to post news & announcements from club officers, schedules for upcoming programs, requests for help from members to the ham community, offers for sale of equipment, and such. It will ONLY be available to club members. Will the volume of mail be too much? We hope not. It is our desire that this tool be used to deliver timely info to club members in a manner we're all used to: our email inbox. Will this replace the VOX & website. No. The club leadership and Jason are working on those too. Why another list? With any communication system there are benefits & drawbacks. At the last officer's meeting it was concluded that the existing communication formats were not meeting the needs of HARC members. After surveying several clubs of comparable size, the mail reflector emerged as the best tool for the job. Don't delay. Sign up immediately 73, Mark N4BCD ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Acceptable Use Policy Use of this email list by members of the Huntsville Amateur Radio Club (HARC) is permitted and encouraged where such use supports the goals and objectives of the club. The goals and objectives of HARC include training for both members and new licensees, public event support, Red Cross support (ARES/RACES), a meeting place for ideas and knowledge sharing, and to provide timely & relevant programs to its members. Stay on topic of amateur radio in general and amateur radio in North Alabama in particular. SPAM, virus warnings, social and political pleas, chain letters, etc are not allowed. The rules of good amateur radio practice apply on this list. No profanity, respect for others, and the spirit of International Goodwill. Feel free to debate topics, but remember to attack the argument and not the person. If you wish to show immaturity, take it somewhere else Do not forward private email conversations to the list without the permission of the person(s) participating in the email conversation. Use of the mail reflector to set up a personal business is prohibited. Offering occasional items for sale is permitted provided the items consist mostly of amateur equipment. Enforcement The mail list moderator has the sole discretion in determining Acceptable use. The moderator will take escalating action to enforce the policy by deleting mail, moderating a user, and unsubscribing a user for repeated violations. Agreement All subscribers, by signing up for this mail reflector, agree to abide by the Acceptable Use Policy. To see the collection of prior postings to the list, visit the Members Archives. Using Members
To post a message to all the list members, send email to members@harc.net. You can subscribe to the list, or change your existing subscription, in the sections below.
Subscribing to Members
Subscribe to Members by filling out the following form. You will be sent email requesting confirmation, to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you. This is a private list, which means that the list of members is not available to non-members. Your email address:   Your name (optional):   You may enter a privacy password below. This provides only mild security, but should prevent others from messing with your subscription. Do not use a valuable password as it will occasionally be emailed back to you in cleartext. If you choose not to enter a password, one will be automatically generated for you, and it will be sent to you once you've confirmed your subscription. You can always request a mail-back of your password when you edit your personal options. Once a month, your password will be emailed to you as a reminder.
